Provato is designed to work without a Provato account. Your items, logs, ratings, notes, tags, fields, and preferences are stored on your device and sync through iCloud when iCloud is available for the signed app and Apple account.

Short version

Your data stays with your device and iCloud account.

Provato stores your library locally on device and uses iCloud/CloudKit to keep your library and preferences aligned across your Apple devices when sync is available. The app does not require a Provato-operated account system to create items, add logs, or browse your history.

If the product ever adds Provato accounts, shared collections, or a separate Provato-operated backend, this page will be updated alongside that change.

1. Device and iCloud data

Provato keeps your tracker data device-first.

Your items, logs, ratings, notes, dates, prices, tags, custom fields, and preferences are stored on your device. When iCloud is available, Provato uses the app's iCloud container to sync that app data through Apple's infrastructure rather than a Provato account.

2. Permissions

Photos and place search are optional.

Provato only asks for photo library or camera access if you choose to attach an image. You can also search for a place or add one to a log without sharing your device's current location.

A place search sends the text you enter and the map area used to narrow results to the lookup providers used by the app, including Apple's MapKit services, the system geocoder, and Nominatim. Provato does not run a places database or receive those searches through a Provato server.

3. Purchases

Unlocking Provato Plus uses purchase infrastructure, not ad tech.

If you purchase or restore the one-time Provato Plus upgrade, Apple and RevenueCat process the transaction and entitlement information needed to validate that access.

That purchase flow is separate from your personal logs and is not used for targeted advertising.

Provato also includes Sentry for crash and error reporting. When a diagnostic event is sent, Sentry receives the error, its technical context, the app version, and device and operating-system information. The current Sentry configuration also permits Sentry to collect the device IP address as diagnostic context. Sentry is not used to profile your collection activity.

4. Ads and analytics

No ads or product analytics.

Provato is not built around ad targeting, data resale, or behavioral profiling. The app does not send feature-usage events or your personal collection data to a product analytics service.

Separately, this website loads an analytics script from analytics.montalesi.dev to measure website usage. Website analytics is separate from the Provato app and does not receive your library, logs, photos, or location data.

5. iCloud sync

iCloud sync keeps your library aligned across Apple devices.

Provato uses iCloud/CloudKit when the app is signed with its iCloud container and iCloud is enabled on your device. Sync availability depends on Apple's iCloud services, your Apple account, and device settings.

6. Policy changes

If the data model changes, this page changes too.

If Provato later adds Provato accounts, shared collections, or new third-party services, the privacy policy will be updated before or alongside that release so the behavior is explicit.
